Job Description

There are a very limited number of summer Associate/Internship opportunities available in the Chicago office. We offer internships to those who are undergraduates and/or MBA/ Advanced degree students. The goal of the internship program is to provide a rewarding career experience for those who have an interest in pursuing a full-time career in investment banking upon graduation. Through your assignment, you will benefit from professional development opportunities, team projects, corporate presentations and exposure to mentors.

The Internship position requires an understanding of one of the following: accounting and corporate finance, modeling and analytical skills, computer proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint coupled with strong communication skills. The Intern will provide critical research, analysis and general professional support and will make recommendations and presentations to senior management. In particular, the Intern will develop strategies and databases of leads and targets in a wide-range of industries whether its Life Sciences, Communications, Manufacturing, Industrial Services or Hi-Tech industries.

Additionally, the Intern will learn to evaluate the financial condition of the potential client and its peer group, and/or assist in developing pitch presentations, marketing material, memoranda's and/or financial valuations. You may help prepare financial spreadsheets, budgets and forecasts. You will participate in due diligence for investor opportunities including both financial and legal. You will develop analytical skills by gathering, consolidating and analyzing financial data. These analytics will be critical to the team's ability to properly target and position clients for sale, merger, acquisition or recapitalization.

On any deal team, you will often be working alongside colleagues or in small teams including senior banking professionals and clients, absorbing a vast amount of industry and investment banking knowledge. As an Investment Banking Intern, roles and responsibilites often vary day-to-day. Along side fellow team members, an Intern will learn to analyze the data and draw financial and strategic conclusions from your work and the work of the team.  You will then present the results to the client and/or senior bankers. You will always be able to seek out guidance from people around you, and the opportunities to develop your technical and personal skills will come quickly.

Your interaction and contact with clients – often times with CEOs or CFOs of large corporations - will be an education in itself, and the experience and accessibility of everyone around you will make the whole process happen at a phenomenal rate. You will be closely involved in the financing execution process. As you gain more and more insights into a particular industry and work across all the many facets of our financial advisory services - your front-line position among team members and with clients will incur enormous responsibility.  It is hard to imagine a more effective and exciting route into the corporate finance arena.

The ideal candidate must be a self-motivated, proactive, professional, prepared to work in a fast-moving, dynamic environment that can require long hours but provides significant job satisfaction and exposure to the day-to-day operations of an investment banking operation. Candidates working towards their degrees in accounting or finance is highly desired, but all business degrees will be considered.  Computer proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint is highly prefered.
